If you really want to get into “the emotion” of football, and understand why we love it, try watching one of these three college football movies. They are all based on true stories. They will all move you to tears but for very different reasons. These are not ranked in any particular order.
The Blind Side – Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for her role as Leanne Tuohy, the Mississippi mom who took in Michael Orr, and helped him to get a college education while also becoming an outstanding football player. He played at Ole Miss before heading to the NFL. If you want to watch just a great movie in every sense of the word, give this one a try (and I’m sure your significant other won’t have objections to a Sandra Bullock movie)! Plus you might just learn what the blind side is and the importance in football.
Rudy – Some people think this movie is for Notre Dame fans only. Those people are wrong. It is a movie about a young man, Rudy, who always dreamed of playing for Notre Dame. He wasn’t the biggest, the fastest, the strongest or the best athlete, but he had the biggest heart. He earned his spot as a walk on due to his hard work and perseverance. He gave 1000% at every practice. I’m not going to ruin the ending for you, so I will stop here. Watch the movie. I have goosebumps just thinking about it.
We Are Marshall – In 1970, a charter plane carrying 75 Marshall football players, coaches, fans, alumni and parents crashed in the West Virginia mountains killing all aboard. The movie is about rebuilding the team, the community and the spirit of Marshall football. It’s not about wins and losses. It’s about moving forward. Oh, and Matthew McConaughey and Matthew Fox aren’t bad to look at either!
