The Teams: Arizona State (Sun Devils) vs. Stanford (Cardinals)
Date, Time and Location: September 21st, 7:00 EST at Stanford Stadium a.k.a (The Farm)
Why the Game is Important: This is the only game this week that is between two top 25 teams. The Sun Devils (#23) and the Cardinals (#5) are both regarded as being key players in the race for their respective division championships. This is the biggest Pac-12 game to date. A conference loss could be detrimental for both and could crush their long-term goals, especially Stanford’s.
Why Arizona State will win: Arizona State has one of the strongest defenses in the country. They are currently 3-0 and lead the all-time series between these two teams 16-11. They have been strong in pass defense so far this year and will be a true test for Stanford’s passing game.
Why Stanford will win: They will win because they are the better team. They have the home field advantage and are favored by 7 1/2 points. Arizona State should have lost against Wisconsin, but a crappy call at the end of the game gave them their third win of the season. ASU really should be 2-1. Keep in mind that they haven’t played a very tough competitor yet. Stanford has won the last two games between these two teams and ASU hasn’t won at The Farm since 2000. Stanford has one of the deepest front seven in college football today and have logged more tackles for loss than other team…except ASU!
Who will win: Stanford. A trip to the National Championship is in their reach this year and they don’t want to mess it up, like they did in 2011!
One Liners for the Game:
“I can’t believe this is the only game this week between two top 25 teams.”
“Stanford is amazing. They are a top academic school AND they have a great football team.”
