Football in Mississippi

For those of you have followed our blog for the past year, you know that I am a huge SEC football fan. As an SEC fan, there are teams that I love and teams that I despise. The rest of the teams in the conference I cheer for because I want the conference to do well and they have never really been a threat to my beloved Crimson Tide. I have friends who are Ole Miss fans and friends who are Mississippi State fans. I’m always hoping they have good seasons. However, this past weekend, things have gotten very interesting!

Ole Miss Rebels

They started the season ranked in the Top 25.  They have had commanding wins over their first 3 opponents and are now #10 in the AP poll. USA Today released an article yesterday indicating that they were #8 in their polls! They can certainly put points up on the board and that is what scares me. The Tide does not have the defense of years past. The Rebels meet the Crimson Tide on Oct. 4th in Oxford. I’m nervous. I’ll admit. Fortunately, Alabama has an extra week to practice since they are off this weekend.

Mississippi State Bulldogs

Who in the world comes into Death Valley unranked and beats #8 LSU? The Mississippi State Bulldogs, that’s who! They took down the Tigers 34-29 in a stunning upset that catapulted the Bulldogs to #14. LSU has dropped to #17. You can almost hear the cowbells going CLANG-CLANG-CLANG!!

These two teams from Mississippi appear to be for real. I’m not going to be able to relax this season until the final whistle blows. The race for who is the best in the SEC West is wide open. This is what makes football nerve racking, stressful, and exciting all at the same time. THIS IS COLLEGE FOOTBALL!

NOTE: Here is an impressive fact…6 out 7 SEC West teams are ranked #17 or higher. No other conference can come close to that statistic!
