This weekend will surely put some separation between the boys and the men! There are some big games with big consequences. Teams with dreams of being in the playoff picture will have those dreams smashed. It’s just a matter of finding out who.
Football conversation starters for this weekend.
Todd Gurley, the phenom running back for Georgia, will still not play this weekend in Georgia’s game against Arkansas. The investigation is on-going. Georgia has hired him an attorney and is supporting him but are being smart in not allowing him to play. If he plays, there is a chance Georgia might have to forfeit those games in the future. They’ll take their chances without him.
On the other hand, there are similar allegations against Jameis Winston, the phenom and controversial quarterback for #1 ranked Florida State. His are a bit less substantiated in proving he took money. Florida State is taking their chances and letting him play. Perhaps, they don’t have 5 backup quarterbacks of merit like Georgia does running backs.
On the NFL level, the big talk will be about the Seattle Seahawks sending Percy Harvin packing. It came as a bit of a surprise that he is now a Jet in New York. Football commentators are calling him ‘toxic’. He had a big contract and was the leading the team in receptions. Something doesn’t smell right. I think I’d agree with the toxic label.
Another talk will be of the ‘catch’ made by a receiver on the Colorado School of Mines football game on Thursday. The kid jumped up, caught it behind the back of the defender, brought it over the defenders helmet and made the catch. Quite amazing.
Big Games of the Weekend
#1 game has to be the #2 Florida State Seminoles against the #5 Notre Dame. Both teams are undefeated at 6-0. Notre Dame has a chance to become the top rated team in the country in their first year of being a sort of part of the ACC, but I don’t think so. Some would worry that all of the off the field stuff surrounding Jameis Winston might be a distraction but not for this kid. In fact, I see it as a positive for him because he plays his best when people are talking about him the most. We’ll see. Here is the hype video to get you all ‘hyped’ up.
#7 Alabama vs #21 Texas A&M is a huge game for the SEC West. Both teams are still suffering from their losses to that state in between them that has all of a sudden been dominating the SEC this year. Neither team can afford another loss. Denise will hope for a A&M smackdown but I think it will be a close game.
#11 Oklahoma vs #14 Kansas State ought to be a real winner of a game too. I hear Kansas State has a chance against Oklahoma. Whoever wins this will have a shot at the Big 12 title. Whoever loses, not so much.
#15 Oklahoma St vs #12 TCU is a game where I still just giggle like a school girl over the horned frogs mascot. Gotta love it! Another Big 12 showdown that will surely leave the loser out of the hunt.
